Pathogenicity of Entomopathogenic Fungi to Orius insidiosus
(Say)
(Hemiptera: Anthocoridae)
Abstract
The effect of Beauveria bassiana (strain IBCB
66), Metarhizium anisopliae (strain IBCB 121), Paecilomyces fumosoroseus
(strain
IBCB 141) and Lecanicillium (= Verticillium)
lecanii (strain
JAB 02) on Orius insidiosus adults were studied in acclimatized
room at 25±1ºC, 70±10% RH and 12 hours fotophase. The
predators were left in Petri dishes (9cm diameter) with filter paper treated
with 1 mL of conidia suspensions (1.0 × 106; 0.5 ×
107; 1.0 × 107; 0.5 × 108
e 1.0 × 108 conidia/mL). In the control sterilized water
was added (1 mL) in the filterpaper. The plates were covered with plastic
film and a small portion of hidrophilic cotton was placed in its interior
and maintained at the same temperature and fotophase condictions. Sterilized
eggs of Anagasta kuehniella were added each two days for the insects
feeding. The fungi were pathogenic to the predator and M. anisopliae
was
more virulent caused lethal effects quickly than the other tested fungi.
